The 5 Best Touring Caravan Sites in England

Picking somewhere to go on a holiday in your touring caravan can be all part of the excitement. Scrolling through countless web pages and flicking through brochures presents you with endless opportunities, but how do you know the good from the bad, and what’s all just a little bit of a sales pitch to secure your booking? We looked at caravan sites rated by the AA and Practical Caravan to find the best England has to offer, to help make your decision a little easier.
1. Old Oaks – Glastonbury
Ranked as the best caravan site by Practical Caravan, this site is an adult-only space that provides visitors with a beautiful countryside stay from March to November.
Located just ten minutes from Glastonbury, this peaceful site is geared towards relaxation. More than 80 pitches are available, ranging from entry-level to superior, and each is set within well-maintained grounds.
Clean washrooms, a handy shop and a great café tick the boxes for many caravanners, but it’s also the activities that keep people coming back again and again. A half-acre lake keeps anglers happy, and the option to use bat detectors means wildlife lovers can immerse themselves in some visual treats.
Perhaps a big lure for this site is its range of dog-friendly features. A 300m exercise area keeps canines active, and the hot water dog shower allows them to freshen up after racing around! There’s also a dog swimming pool, so a paddle is always available if they fancy it.

2. Warren Farm Holiday Centre – Burnham-on-Sea
Highly rated by the AA, this giant park has 575 touring pitches available throughout the year. Just a short walk from the beach and offering great views of the Mendip Hills and Brean Down, families, couples and solo travellers can pitch up, set down and enjoy stunning scenery among a wealth of activities.
Fishing lakes, farm walks, outdoor playgrounds, an entertainment area, bar and restaurant are just part of what is on offer.
You also have the luxury of choosing whether you want to stay pet-free or pet-friendly, meaning you can bring along the pooch if you prefer, or stay out of the way of people’s pets. It’s simply down to you!
AA reviews are glowing with visitors praising the cleanliness, variety of entertainment and the leisure facilities the site provides.

3. Pinecones – King’s Lynn
Going back to the selection from Practical Caravan, we were delighted to find Pinecones in King’s Lynn is still much loved. This year-round site boasts affordability as one of its key features, but it complements that perfectly with its location and on-site offerings.
Sandringham Visitor Centre is only a short while away, and a scenic drive helps you enjoy and appreciate some of the stunning coastline Norfolk has to offer.
Onsite, you’ll find individual shower rooms, EV charging, free Wi-Fi, a children’s play area and even a dog brewery! Ben’s Bar provides you with a great chance to meet other guests and perhaps organise some social events of your own!
This site is also widely acknowledged for its green credentials. It generates its electricity on-site and only buys it from renewable sources.
Pets and children are welcome, making it a great base for families and those who don’t want to spend extravagant sums on kennel fees or pet sitters.

4. Manor Wood Country Caravan Park – Chester
Winner of the AA Campsite of the Year North West England award for 2023/24, this site offers seclusion, tranquillity, and an opportunity to leave your troubles behind. Set in a beautifully landscaped park with views of the Welsh Hills across the Cheshire Plain, the park offers generous pitch space so you can park your touring caravan and enjoy both privacy and the views without feeling intrusive on others.
An outdoor heated swimming pool, all-weather tennis courts, two fishing lakes, dog walking areas, café, shop and on-site hair salon mean most of your bases are covered, but nearby you’ll also find an array of pubs and beautiful country walks.
The park also holds a David Bellamy Gold Award for its commitment to the countryside. This is demonstrated by the range of wildlife you’ll spot during your visit.

5. Cartref Caravan & Campsite – Shrewsbury
This adult-only site rounds off our list, but don’t let its placement mean it’s rated any less than the others. Just five miles from Shrewsbury, this site is the ideal base for those looking to visit Ludlow, Wroxeter Roman City or the Shropshire Hills.
The bar and coffee shop is dog-friendly and a great place to try locally-sourced ales and beers.
A shop that’s open all year helps you keep your caravan well-stocked, and the award-winning toilet facilities help accentuate the high standards the park holds itself to.
It only has 45 touring pitches, but unlike many other parks, it is open all year round. This site has fewer facilities compared to some of the others we’ve listed, but visitors treat this venue more as an idyllic base. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings that allow you to relax before or after having a day of exploration or adventure.
